I went in here with my wife for a light lunch. Wow! The food was not at all what I expected...It was really well cooked with some wonderful flavours that you just don't normally get outside of good restaurants. That we should have such a great 'hidden gem' on our doorstep is great.

Shouldn't review a place on their opening day as there will always be teething problems but I will anyway. We enjoyed Creme under the previous owners and we're looking forward to the reopening. On first day you make allowances for staff nerves and everything being new to them so we overlooked the haphazard and nervous service - I'm sure that will improve over time.Breakfast menu was interesting but not a lot to stand out - it lacked stalwart favourites if you wanted a hot cooked breakfast - but again the menu will develop over time and I'm sure the owners will listen to similar feedback that they have received from others on social media.My wife had French toast - in her words nothing special, bacon was very nice, toast was cold and syrup lacking - my wife likes the syrup served on the side so she can pour it over herself - and plenty of it - but that's an individual preference. I had the poached eggs, pastrami and avocado on sourdough bread. I rate an establishment on their poached eggs - these were perfect! The pastrami and avocado were tasty and fresh, but - and I'm afraid there is a but - it was all stone cold. I assume the sourdough was toasted and should be warm but then put stone cold pastrami and mashed avocado on top (felt like it was just out of the fridge), then put the perfect warm poached eggs on top and this sucked the heat out of everything. It was tasty but not pleasant ands it was all stone cold... Personally I would have liked the pastrami warmed a little - even just under a heat lamp before assembling the dish on warm toast and a warmed plate then serving immediately while warm...It's easy to see the touch of chef Joery Castel on the menu - but more traditional hot cooked options would be welcome.Another teething problem on day one was the card payment was not yet working - which I was told when I tried to pay by card. It was only by chance that I had enough cash on me that morning to cover the bill as I normally wouldn't. Not a great start - but I won't let that put me off and nor should you! We will return in a week or two when they have hopefully found their feet and ironed out opening nerves and issues...
