It almost hurts me to type this. I loved this place and would go often however for the past few months there’s been a younger man there (not the very kind older man) and multiple times he has told me he’s “trying to close early” and pushes me to order my food to go. I mentioned it to my mom and it has happened to her too (and she just leaves instead so money is lost on their behalf). This guy is always trying to leave, and when i ordered two sandwiches to go (as he requested) i was astonished to find out at home that the sandwiches had hardly any filling at all. There was a single sliver of beef, just all bread. I had to stop myself from going back for a refund (and i gave a big tip!) as i was sure he probably closed up already. I wish he would leave if he hates it so much there. This used to be one of my favorite places. The older man always remembered my order and he was so kind and gracious, i miss him. Like a lot of reviewers here, I have been a customer for MANY, MANY years and French Sandwiches is hands-down one of the best and most consistent restaurants (of any type) in San Antonio. I used to work around the corner and came in a couple of times per week...now I live in Boerne but it is worth the occasional trip to get my beloved S7 "Chef's Continental" sandwich on French baguette. Everything is made here and made fresh daily. The French Onion soup is a little different than most in that it's made with chicken broth instead of beef broth, but it's excellent. And the little cream puff made with fresh pastry cream is a delightful addition and finishing touch. By the way, the breakfasts are great too! Super nice owners, spotlessly clean inside, and the sandwiches are prepared with "medical precision" befitting of the med center locale. I have dreams about and cravings for this place...worth a trip from anywhere!
