The service was very nice, the staff were very friendly and polite. The food however was disappointing. I had the veggie breakfast and the plate itself was tiny overfilled with mushrooms making it difficult to properly cut my food up. The hash brown was the biggest disappointment. I understand it’s advertised as homed made but it was actually potato pakora and very far from the traditional hash brown I was expecting. Overall the friendliness of the staff saved the experience because the food was well below average. Food: 2 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 3

Our hash browns are prepared fresh every day made from real potatoes we use about 50-60 kg of potatoes a week that’s a lot hash browns. We very rarely have complaints about them usually because the customer is more used to the frozen triangle ones or even the ever popular hash brown bites. Hidden away off a quiet hilly street George Street Canteen is a nice quite spot to get away from the hustle and bustle of the mains streets in St Albans. We sat inside on what looks like old school chairs from the era of my mummy’s time at school. But there is ample seating outside too.We shared a halloumi, avocado and tomato salsa brioche bap with a small salad garnish.I’m a teddy that adore the squeakiness of halloumi, and this didn’t disappoint in squeakiness or taste. There was a tiny black speck on the avocado, but it is hard to get those fruits perfect in this age of rushed growth.You can buy some produce like honey and apple juice and can have a side view of the cathedral if sitting outside at the back.
