Emma, the proprietress of The Peacock Country Inn, couldn't possibly have done any more to make our stay at her establishment as satisfying and enjoyable as it was. My wife and I were quite dismayed to learn, on arriving, that I had made a mistake when booking and that we had been expected on 28th June instead of 28th July. We feared that there would be "no room at the inn", but Emma, in spite of being extremely busy, personally prepared a spotless suite comprising kitchen/diner, bedroom and bathroom from which we enjoyed splendid views of the surrounding countryside. Our bed was tremendously comfortable and our shower delivered piping-hot water at high pressure. The kitchen has a hob and microwave for those who might want to prepare their own food, but that would mean missing out on the superb fare that Emma's chefs produce and which provided us with the best dining experience we had enjoyed for many years. We both had the soup of the day and then cod and chips and fish-pie respectively. The food was absolutely first class and came from a very diverse menu which offered pretty much any dish that one might want. I have no doubt at all that everything on the menu is equally as excellent. Breakfast too is quite perfect and delicious variations are offered. I wasn't remotely surprised to learn that people come from miles around to dine at The Peacock and a Michelin Star is surely not far away. Emma's staff display the same dedication as she to providing impeccable hospitality and service and I formed the impression that for all at The Peacock what they do is much more of a vocation than merely an ordinary job. The Peacock is precisely what one would expect of a country inn with its beams, huge fireplaces and ornamentation with byegone rustic implements. Refreshingly, there is no piped muzak or huge TV meaning that guests can pleasantly converse. There is also ample parking. When my wife and I next spend time in that part of Oxfordshire, The Peacock is unquestionably the inn at which we will stay. Rooms: 5 Service: 5 Location: 5
