Walked over to Granite Island via the causeway on a weekday during these recent Christmas school holidays. We were hungry and looking forward to lunch at the Island Cafe. A big disappointment. Even taking into account that it was a very busy period, the woman in charge of the venue needs to take a deep breath and practise her people skills. The other younger staff were anxious to please and obliging. Unfortunately the overpriced food left a lot to be desired. My chicken burger consisted of unappetising pieces of chicken which tasted and looked as if they had been soaked in MSG to make them tender! A piece of bacon and some salad slapped on top did not make it any more appealing. The accompanying sweet potato fries were alright though. My daughter's "adult" squid was reasonably tender, but needed a bit of a 'kick' to it - rather bland. My grandson's chicken nuggets were obviously out of the freezer (boxed) variety and tasteless. He usually loves nuggets, but not this time. These were served with a pile of thick cut potato chips. The venue had run out of crumbed "children's" squid. The milkshakes were actually quite tasty, so maybe they have improved in quality since other reviews of their milkshakes have been published. However, to purchase quite a small milkshake for $5.00 to sit down and drink, as opposed to charging an extra $1.00 for a takeaway, is totally ridiculous.
