The food is good. The service is bad.The attitude is worse. They are trying to be exclusive and sophisticated but instead of gaining more customers they drive them away by not trying to be accommodating at all. It’s their way or the highway and you have REALLY want to eat there because they make it a point to let you know they don’t really need your business. We went one night and wanted to go back the next night with a larger party. We were told they can’t take a reservation but we can come put our name down when they open. They open at 5.30 we went at 6 and put our name down and were told 2 to 2.5 hours wait (so 8-8.30pm seating) and that everyone in the party would have to be present. So we told our party to meet at the restaurant at 8 and that there might be a half hour wait. Then the restaurant texted us at 7.15 (1h 15 min after putting our name down, not 2-2.5 hours) and expected us to all be there and ready to sit down within 10 minutes (mind you, sub zero temperatures outside among other things). I called but they wouldn’t pick up. So I texted saying we will be there at 8 like they told us to and they called back and said we would have to show up within 10 minutes or they would cancel our reservation and that they could then put us back on the waiting list and wait ANOTHER 2.5 to 3 hours. So obviously we went somewhere else where they actually WANT our money and APPRECIATE their customers, something Uncle Boons clearly doesn’t care about. It’s amazing how fine the line is in New York between restaurants who are appreciative of their customers and restaurants who get pretentious, overconfident and self-absorbed when they have too many customers. But usually it doesn’t last long and then they go out business...
Great food. Not quite your traditional Thai restaurant, but delicious. The green mango salad was on point and the sauteed pea leaves were a garlicky delight. The duck breast was so moist you could cut it with a spoon. Also recommend the curry noodles with chicken and really probably anything on the menu. Cocktails are solid as well. Only two downsides - 1) it's likely to be crowded and you'll have to wait a while and 2) it may end up being the most expensive Thai meal you've had. Pro-tip: they sometimes keep a separate wait-list for eating at the bar (moved way faster for us).
The most ridiculous, rude and unpleasant customer service ever. Restaurant pretends to be creating fake demand by trying to be exclusive, but they are just plain rude and make you feel like your business is not welcome, basic lack of culture in the waiters and the manager and the hostess. After being told to wait for 2 -2,5 h for a table they called us an hour later and demanded we are there in 10min otherwise have to wait another 3 hours for a table (or perhaps just stand by the restaurant with our party hoping to be served) it was all told with “go to hell, we’re to good for you” attitude. I’m an internationally recognised artists, travelling the world. and I am a restaurant goer from Michelin star restaurants to many other fancy places, but I have never experienced such an unpleasant treatment and such lack of trying to accommodate people. Won’t ever come back and don’t recommend anyone to even bother. Food might be ok but there are better Thai places out there where your service is welcomed with a smile.
