In this house for Christmas 2023 we ordered a Christmas goose with red cabbage, dumplings and sauce to take away from home according to the website. Price 210 EUR. When ordering, we had already pointed out that we still had a voucher for a candlelight dinner, which we would like to use. When we came to pick it up, we were informed that the voucher “unfortunately” could no longer be taken into account because it was from 2018 and there had been a change of operator. Aha. The goose was only handed over to us after half an hour of waiting. “Why didn’t we bring any packing materials?” we were asked. Nobody told us that. "Well, we would get a serving platter "as an exception, but we would have to bring it back." How generous. To the goose it was said; “please warm it up in the oven for about half an hour”. We also got exactly eight dumplings the size of table tennis balls and far too little sauce as well as some red cabbage. To be on the safe side, we warmed up the goose with a meat thermometer. It took over two hours in the oven until the internal temperature was over 60 degrees. We concluded that the goose was not freshly roasted, but from the day before or even older. In any case, it wasn't fresh. Skin not crispy and meat dry and hard. That was probably the reason for the long waiting time. They may have tried to warm it up quickly so they could claim it had just come out of the oven. It was less the money than the disappointment after the anticipation that spoiled this evening. Restaurant visited in what Google describes as “moderately” busy time. Having just moved to Blankenese, I really wanted to try a jellyfish on the sand. That didn't happen. In the restaurant, which was only half full, the two of us - after asking - sat at a table for four by the window. A total of three tables were free in the first room, and almost everything in other rooms. My companion went to the cake buffet to make a selection. There she was told by another employee: “You are not allowed to sit at this table. It is for 4 people”. It should be noted that although there were 4 chairs at this table, it wasn't really big. We therefore decided to leave Witthüs and do our business elsewhere. And: elsewhere in Blankense people are treated extremely nicely and professionally. We won't be coming back any time soon.
