I lunched at Wombat Hill House with a family member on Friday 1 March. Food and drinks are ordered and paid for at the counter, before the meal. I had an heirloom tomato pizza which was basically inedible. The base was a pre-made or packeted type, or at least tasted like it, and was very tough to cut and had a stale bread texture. The topping, warmed not cooked, had quartered tomatoes on the very top, and more thick slices of tomato under the cheese; these thick-cut tomatoes lost a lot of juice into the base, making it soggy in the middle. This was exacerbated by the very thick layer of cheese which extended across the whole pizza - why not have thin slices of tomato and small islands of cheese?? Also, the pizza was served on a very unclean board with sizeable splits in the wood - see photo - which might not be to health standards(?), plus a paper layer that went to mush when cutting through the wet topping and tough base (the pizza was not pre cut into slices, so I was unsure why there was paper under it). The service was poor. The wait staff delivered our meals with hardly a word, and dropped the cutlery, in a bunch, onto the tiled tabletop from a few centimetres above the table; when I looked up in amazement, she had already swung around and was walking off - her back was the last we saw of her! There was no coming around to ask if we’d finished or if we’d like desert or coffee, even though we sat chatting long after we’d put aside the balance of our pizza and pasta. If cafes and restaurants don’t want negative online reviews, I’d suggest they ask patrons if they enjoyed their meals, and that way they could get realtime feedback. No one at Wombat Hill House came by our way during or after our meal, much less asked if we enjoyed it. We will not be returning. An garden cafe, surrounded by greens, and smells and aromas, and that's before the food even comes out. If brunch/lunch surrounded by a wonderfully green garden is your thing, this place is a must. Service: Dine in Meal type: Brunch Price per person: A$20–40 Food: 5 Service: 3 Atmosphere: 4
