• Bodegas Recuero 'Siglo' Moravia 2010
This wine is very special to us. We are one of very few restaurants in the us to serve it. It is made from moravia (brujidera), an obscure grape indigenous to the toledo region of spain. The grape is almost extinct. This wine is a taste of what spanish wines were like more than a century ago. Please ask your server for the whole story.
• Poppy Pinot Noir
At once new world and varietally true, poppy is an easy pinot noir expressive of the sunny and cool climate of monterey.
• De Angelis Lacrima Christi Del Vesuvio Rosso 2012
The grapes are called "the tears of christ" either because of their greek antiquity, their aching sublimity, or their indeterminate teardrop shape. The varietals are ancient, the soil is old lava, and the wine is as italian as my father-in-law, which is to say, molto.
• Gramercy Cellars 'Southern Blend" Columbia Valley
My first thought on tasting this wine was, "this wine should teach kissing lessons!". Elegance, balance, and a finish that is at once powerful and tender. Washington state syrah/grenache blend.
• Domaine De Couron Coes Du Rhone 2012
A favorite of ours since the restaurant opened. Great with our food or on its own; medium-bodied with wonderful ripeness and weight.
• Semaphore 7 Reservation
Alicante bouschet is one of the only grapes in the vitis vinifera family to have dark red flesh in addition to red skin. More anthocyanins might engender more and wilder phenolics, but i might as well describe the human heart by saying something about ventricles. Here is the blazing north african climate of alentejo (complete with romantic visions of moorish horsemen) harnessed by the rainy catholic plodding of lisbon into one bloody tear-miracle droplet on a pink sandstone virgen among a riot of manueline artichokes and side-saddle archery slits. Ah portugal!
• Stolpman 'La Cuadrilla' Syrah/Grenache 2012
The crew that pick grapes at stolpman winery are spanish-speaking, and la cuadrilla refers to them. All of the proceeds from the sale of this wine go to the vineyard workers. Big, tannic, full-bodied red wine that would love to have some stuck or duck with you.
• Bonny Doon 'Le Pousseur Syrah 2012
The perennially hilarious randall graham of bonny doon gives this syrah all of the rustic structure and and country heft of the ancient rhone valley, while dressing it in the modish fashions of present-day california, that we are all of us too young to wear. The rare wine that manages to be be authentic and accessible at the same time.
• Caggiano 'Tari' Aglianico 2012
Aglianico was the favorite grape varietal of my 20s, and it remains a young man's wine. Obstinate tannin, unpredictable herbs, and the decidedly middle-brow pleasure of a big red wine that manages to smuggle cherry cola into its midpalate all make for a wine better suited perhaps for a rustic dinner of boar in the damp caves of ancient taurasi than civilized dining in downtown raleigh. Perfect with the ribs
• Colli Dells Murgia Mazzaro Cabernet Blend 2008
This southern italian cabernet blend balances ripeness and tannin perfectly. The supporting aglianico grape adds spice and structure to the cabernet's fruit.
• Zlatan Plavac 2010
Plavac mali (plaa-vahtz) is an ancient croatian grape varietal, the distance ancestor to modern zinfandel. This rich, gorgeous red wine is extracted, tannic, brambly, and unique. It is a taste of what great wine might have been in the time of alexander the great. From the southern croatian region of dalmatia, an up-and-coming corner of the wine world.

• Thierry Tissot Bugey Brut Nv
In raleigh, the question of whether it is bojangles or biscuitville or beasley's that has the best biscuits is one that could give rise to shouting matches and rifts in families. The real answer, though, if we are being honest (and believe me it pains me to say so, as a native) is france, and more particularly french sparkling wine. Yeast and oak and ethereal citrus bake biscuits in a flute to make you slap your mama.
• Venturini Baldini 'Roncolo' Dry Lambrussco Nv
Lambrusco suffers from an erroneous perception in the us that it is all cloyingly sweet wine for teenagers. This very dry lambrusco proves that there is a grown-up side to these wines. Walnuts, balsamic, and stewed strawberries. Wonderful with the pad thai.
• Barnaut Grand Cru Ros Champagne Nv
Explosive! A riot of red fruit and muscular acidity. Could stand up to a filet.
• Billecart-Salmon Vintage Brut 'Blanc De Blancs' Grand Cru Champagne 1999
Vintage grand cru champagne, properly aged, from one of the great houses. High scores from tanzer and parker alike. It's good. Drink it.
• Pierre Moncuit Brut 'Millesime' Grand Cru Champagne 2005
Three be the things i shall never attain: envy, content, and sufficient champagne." Dorothy parker

• House Rose
Served by the glass or carafe
