The only side item that is never disgusting is the sweet potato casserole. I ordered the fried pork chop for the first time, and I must say NEVER AGAIN! No taste no nothing; I had to ask myself was it really meat. They should consider taking it off the menu. We regularly travel thru Memphis on our way to Nashville. We normally stop in Jackson at a homestyle buffet restaurant. We saw that Abbays is a southern cooking fast food restaurant, kind of like Boston Market, plus it was easy on/off I-40. The food was good. I had baked chicken and turnip greens and broccoli/rice casserole along with cornbread. My husband had a 4 veg plate. My biggest complaint was the chicken was kind of dry. The veggies were really good. The restaurant was clean, and well maintained. As to the complaint that the food was served on recycled paper plates, not sure how that's a bad thing. It's sure better than styrofoam. We will be back. Edit to add 2nd trip: We came back 3 weeks later. Husband had the pork chop, okra and limas. I had meatloaf, turnip greens and broccoli rice. I tried his okra and pork chop.... gross. Both tasted of old oil. The pork chop had a weird, tough taste. My meatloaf was okayish. This trip was a big disappointment.
