We had lunch at Applebee’s in Altus, Oklahoma, arriving around 12:45 p.m. At the time, only two tables were occupied, and the dining room was being covered by our waitress and one other waitress. After being seated by the host, we waited about eight minutes before our waitress came to take our drink order. We were already ready to order our meals as well, but she didn’t have her order pad with her, so we had to wait even longer before placing our food order. Our drinks arrived about five minutes later, but the order wasn’t correct—we received a water without the lemon we requested and an iced tea. After placing our food order, we waited approximately 15 minutes and decided we’d like to order two cocktails. During that entire time, we never saw our waitress. I walked up to the bar, but no one was there. I then headed toward the office area, where the host intercepted me. From where I was standing, I could see two employees gathered around the computer laughing and chatting. The host located our waitress, who finally came to take our cocktail order. We then waited another 15 minutes before our cocktails were delivered. Throughout our visit, it appeared that the bartender and both waitresses were more focused on hanging Fourth of July decorations than on taking care of the customers who were already in the restaurant. With only a few occupied tables, the lack of attentiveness was difficult to understand. We also watched the only other occupied table—a party of four—get up from their table and walk to the host stand to get their own menus because no one had brought them any. Another table of four left during our meal. While the table itself was eventually cleared, food was left scattered on the floor and remained there instead of being cleaned up. The food quality itself was what we’ve come to expect from Applebee’s and was generally good. However, the salad arrived without the dressing that was ordered, requiring another five-minute wait before it was brought to the table. Once our food arrived, we requested our check at the same time because we had no desire to camp out at Applebee’s waiting for our server again after everything we’d already experienced. Overall, the food met expectations, but the service did not. There were very few customers in the restaurant, yet service was consistently slow, inattentive, and lacking attention to detail. This is a national chain located in close proximity to an active Air Force base and directly next door to a hotel. Based on its location, I would have expected the restaurant to be much busier. After experiencing this level of service, it’s easy to understand why customers may choose to dine elsewhere. Applebee’s corporate should take a close look at what is happening at this location because the experience we had fell well below what should be expected during a slow lunch shift. Price per person: $20–30 Food: 3 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 1

Ordered an appetizer that we didn’t receive, drinks got refilled but they took our cups with the straws and brought us filled cups with no straws, no big deal. But the all you can eat stuff came out slow, so there’s a long wait in between plates. And the all you can eat food was mediocre at best. Oriental salad was good though. Price per person: $10–20 Food: 3 Service: 2 Atmosphere: 4 Recommended dishes: Oriental Chicken Salad

So we arrive at 5:44 and happy hour is from 3 to 6. No one even comes to our table until 5:50 which is fine because I think they were probably short handed. I specifically ask the waitress if it was still happy hour and she said "yes, for 5 more minutes". So my mother and I order a frozen margarita. The waitress brings the drinks and says "by the way, those margaritas aren't part of the half price specials." Now why couldn't she have told us before she had the drinks made? If I hadn't been so floored by the way she handled it I would have said "well here, take them back." If I hadn't asked specifically if happy hour was still on I wouldn't be so pissed. Why would I ask if I wanted to pay full price??I wish I had been prepared enough to refuse them. The only saving grace was that my oriental chicken salad was exceptional!
