We’ve been very fortunate to eat extremely well during our visit to Porto (primarily visiting to explore the food culture) and Atrevo was the clear standout for us. An unassuming exterior and attentive but relaxed atmosphere did not prepare us for the exceptional flavours, balance and overall deliciousness of the 6 course tasting menu from Rita and her team. The first mouthful of the appetisers was a flavour bomb - a rice cracker of tuna tartar, ponzu, and nori, before an unassuming sourdough plate with an orange blossom crème fraiche and yeast butter - the former packing the perfect balance of punch and citrus without being overpowering. This balance continued throughout the rest of the menu. The first full dish of amberjack ceviche with a Brazilian ‘Leche de Tigre’ sauce, melon and buckwheat is probably the most perfectly balanced plate of food I can remember eating. Incredible punch of citrus flavour, balanced by the fish and sweet melon and the moorish crunch of the buckwheat for texture I could go on. This dish was truly excellent. Beautifully seasoned Seabass with sweet parsnip puree, picked fennel and a punchy garlic and butter sauce followed, again incredible intensity and purity of flavour, balanced perfectly when eaten as one. Very generous Iberico pork cooked to perfection (think duck breast) with the most flavoured and textured ‘couscous’, cherries and shallots with a luxurious demi glace followed by a pre dessert of palate cleansing pancetta of incredible smoothness and texture with a drop of balsamic and Madeira gel adding again expertly balanced richness, sweetness and acidity. Dessert highlighted seasonality with strawberries several ways, honey cake and rhubarb to balance the sweetness. We didn’t pair the wine but were recommended delicious and crowd pleasing and very reasonably priced glasses to accompany our food. The chefs table experience seeing the team work was very special and the full team gave us great explanations of all aspects of the meal, and Rita generously gave us her time at the end of service - her dedication, passion and modesty was clear. I don’t often feel compelled to write reviews but amid lots of great Michelin and otherwise recommended restaurants in Porto, it is hard to work out which ones really you need to prioritise. We have had flashier meals in bigger and more expensive restaurants this week but for anyone who priorities flavour and unpretentious food lead cuisine, we cannot recommend highly enough! If it wasn’t our last night, we’d come back tomorrow to taste the à la carte we didn’t try - the razor clams in particular! Thanks again to the team for an incredible and meal to round of our trip! We sat at the chef's table and could watch the lively activity in the kitchen. Everything ran smoothly, and you could see that there was a great atmosphere, which was contagious for us guests. We had booked the six-course menu. Each course was explained, and it was a fantastic culinary experience Price per person: €50+ Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

The restaurant looked great — small, cozy, and with a nice atmosphere. Unfortunately, the service was disappointing. We had to wait around 45 minutes before receiving the first dish of the tasting menu. We had mentioned several times that one person in our group was vegetarian — both in the reservation and again when ordering — but they still brought the non-vegetarian version of the first dish. We then had to wait again while they corrected the mistake, which was quite annoying. Overall, the service was mediocre. Water glasses were rarely refilled, and the staff did not seem very attentive. The food itself was good, but not especially memorable. In the vegetarian menu, two dishes tasted very similar. That said, the lettuce dish and the dessert were absolutely excellent. The wine pairing was also very nice, and I would definitely recommend it. Price per person: €50+ Food: 4 Service: 3 Atmosphere: 5
