My friend & I went for a belated birthday meal for him today. The food was lovely and our waitress Felicity was even better. We did have an issue with another table where they unfortunately tried to ruin our meal as they falsely believed we had caused an issue for them, however Felicity quickly shut the situation down and the manager (I didn’t catch her name) came over to make sure we were okay and apologise. The way this issue was dealt with was professional and made our experience all the better. Will definitely return one day. Would recommend to anyone who wants a quiet meal in an idyllic location. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

A fantastic pub on the banks of the canal in rural Melksham, Wiltshire. A great selection of local beers, and ales, plus a strong food menu. There's a large outdoor seating area overlooking the canal for those lazy summer afternoons and evenings. Highlight recommend if your in the area, or on the way to/from Avebury Henge. Price per person: £10–20 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

I don’t typically leave reviews unless an experience is exceptionally good or disappointingly poor. Initially, I was a strong supporter of The Barge Inn and even chose it as the venue for my mother’s birthday celebration, expecting a pleasant and welcoming atmosphere. Unfortunately, our visit was deeply disappointing. Upon arrival, the waitress was noticeably unfriendly and gave us the impression that we were not welcome. After being seated, we waited over 40 minutes without any service at our table. Eventually, we had to go to the bar ourselves to order drinks. Even after that, another 20 minutes passed with no further attention, prompting us to order our food at the bar as well. During this time, the only other table nearby was being served, but from what we could hear, the service they received was similarly curt and impolite. It was clear that our table (a party of seven) was being actively ignored without any explanation. Only after our meals arrived did someone finally approach us to ask how the food was. To be fair, the food itself was very good, and the pub has a lovely setting. However, the level of service we received was unacceptable and left us feeling unwelcome and undervalued as customers. As a local resident, I had hoped to continue supporting this establishment, but based on this experience, I will be taking my business elsewhere. I expect I will never know why we were treated in this manner. Food: 4 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 2 Price per person: £100+
