Was super excited to try Baso and expected to love it but had quite an underwhelming experience. We spent $170pp and certainly were not full nor did we have a noteworthy experience. A few things:. Menu: does not explain the dishes. For example, they have a shrimp option but apparently it’s only 2 oz of shrimp / does not say how it’ll be cooked or what’s included. I assumed everything was cooked in the live fire but apparently it’s only 3 of the dishes. Service: Mentioned to our waitress it was our first time but she did not walk us through menu whatsoever and just asked us to place everything together. Very confusing ordering process when the menu doesn’t explain the dishes and wait staff doesn’t share any explanations proactively. Wine: ordered a bottle of Albariño and it was basically room temperature. Was not chilled, which just makes it difficult to enjoy. Mushrooms: $49 for 3 tiny pieces of mushroom which had no flavor. Again we had thought this would be cooked on the open flame. It was not. Snapper: I personally had 10+ bones in my portion of the filet (1/3 of the fish). If I am paying $120 for the entree, at the very least would want the fish properly deboned. I understand a couple bones but it was excessive. Only dishes worth any hype in my opinion were the pepper toast and basque cheesecake. Would not go back. Absolutely not worth the money. Food: 3 Service: 3 Atmosphere: 3 Price per person: $100+

We celebrated our anniversary at Baso and chose the “Trust the Chef” menu, which turned out to be an excellent way to experience the restaurant. Every dish was delicious, distinctive, and thoughtfully composed, introducing us to flavors and combinations we had not encountered before. The service was exceptional throughout the evening, and the cocktails complemented the progression of the meal beautifully. The caviar service was also outstanding and felt worthy of the occasion. The restaurant itself has an intimate, polished atmosphere, and the Basque cheesecake was one of the best finishes we could have asked for. Baso is not necessarily somewhere most people will visit casually every month. It is a place you experience once or twice and fully commit to when you do. Our total with gratuity was a little over $900, but for an anniversary dinner where we went all in, the quality of the food, drinks, service, and overall experience made it memorable.
