Aight so boom, we went to The Blackwall Barn & Lodge located at 329 Gambrills Rd, Gambrills, MD 21054 for our 14th anniversary and it was amazing. We started with the Flaming Crb Dip. We couldn't catch the flambe' fast enough but the dip was decent. We wouldn't order it again. It was mostly cream cheese and it was served with Naan chips which was ok but we prefer tortillas or crostinis. Duck Fat Fries are a must with the house-made sriracha ketchup. The fries were perfectly seasoned and fried just right. If you've never tried a spicy cocktail, the Spicy Passion Fruit Margarita is a great first one. The drink itself was sweet yet strong enough and it was rimmed with Tajin. The sweet and savory balance was perfect. Tank had the shrimp and grits without the sausage. The grits were meh, they were not very creamy and the white wine Creole sauce left something to desire, he wouldn't order that dish again. The shrimp were good though, so there's that. The crab cake he ordered on the side was very good, we through that in the shrimp and grits. It was mostly crab which is always a plus. I had the catch of the day which was salmon topped with crab imperial and it was delicious! I paired it with the Barn Brussel Sprouts and fingerling herb potatoes. Everything about that entrée was delectable. The Brussels were roasted and had honey dijon mustard on them which was a taste I was not prepared to be that good. The vibe was chill and cozy, we sat by the fireplace and Jacob our server was more than gracious. Sidebar, don't order the Fiji water because it's Crofton rainwater in a Fiji costume.

Had a Sunday brunch. Food was fine, service mediocre. But had a major problem with check. They automatically add in an 18% tip. The brunch was a buffet. So wait staff service was a bare minimum. Customers must serve themselves. We had to track down waitress to get coffee topped off and to get final check. She definitely did not earn anything near 18%. And the bill had a line item labeled "cc surcharge ". That's credit card service charge. They charge more if you use a credit card. There was a cash price also, less than credit card charge. The omelet station had a tip jar placed front and center and as obvious as they could possibly make it. So omelet maker thinks he deserves another tip. And he had no idea what a Denver omelet is. I had to explain it to him. No way does he deserve a separate tip. Tipping should be at discretion of customer and not a requirement as it is on your check. I really resent their adding it as part of check, especially for self-service buffets where waitress performs bare minimum of services.Be warned!
