This is a place that serves beer and pub food, dine in and takeaway. While the food is ok, the whole experience leaves a lot to be improved. Dining in is not comfortable. We were placed on high stools on a cramped long table which was uncomfortable and made impossible with people at the other end. When, some days later, I later wanted to order takeaway I found that, while there is a button to see the menu, it doesn't work. So I called and was told that their website isnt working properly and they tried to explain their menu (fail). Anyway, in exasperation, I ordered what I had eaten previously and went to pick it up thinking that I'd look at the menu once there to also order a dessert. But it appears that the 4 items on their dessert menu are not suitable for takeaway as they all have icecream. So I suggested that they might think about adding some items to the menu that are more suitable for takeaway and all a got from the chef was a look that told me what I could do with my helpful suggestions. So in summary - ok beer, crappy website, mediocre food, bad service and bad management. Overall, unless you just want some beer then go elsewhere.

I'm a local to this little gem. Great beers, relaxed style and a great melting pot of people from all walks of life which is quiet uncommon in canberra. It has a lovely quite library with board games and books a more loud interior and a decent outside area to suit what you're feeling. The specials here change continuously so keep an eye on that blackboard. They have a good pub style standard menu and do a beaut take on the schnitty. The occasional piece on the ever changing menu isn't great but there are also some cracking dishes (the chef can really bring it back when he's on his a game) .All in all a great place to frequent especially in summer when you can sit on the hill and soak up the sunset.

Mr Eat Canberra's parents live in Aranda and are regulars at The Bolt Bar! It's a great place to go for a few drinks and if you live close by then you can easily walk. The food is ok. Think simple pub-style food. But it's a great place to go to enjoy a few drinks with friends and it's so good to see the old Aranda shops in use again.
