Having experienced surprisingly good (read quick and friendly) service in my weekend sojourn to Messico City, I was somewhat bemused to find that things finally started to revert to the mean at La Buenavida. Trust a hipster location in any country to provide wildly inefficient service with semi-shocking amounts of apathy mixed with "I don't give a fuck about you" vibes from the serving staff. You should have seen the dead look in my tattooed servers eyes as he deigned to take my order in halting Espanol. Would have been right at home with all of the models/actors in LA's service industry. Still, this isn't your humble author's first rodeo in Latin America, so I tried not to be too nonplussed by the negligence of the server - I just figured it was just statistical laws being put into practice. So anyway, on to the food: I had the cemita sandwich with Argentine chorizo. I thought the food was flavorful and although this now ups my lifetime Cemita consumption mark to three, I will say that it was definitely in the top 80th percentile of all of the cemitas I've eaten in my life. (I've taken a cue from my good friend Denny K, and have started to incorporate more gorilla-stats into my reviews). The potato accoutrement inhabited sort of the grey divide between chips and fries, but were cut like in half moon shapes. Liquid refreshment was provided by several Carta Blanca beers, Mexico's answer to Miller Lite. The total cost of the meal came out to roughly 150 pesos... (Is it me or is food in D.F. not nearly as cheap as you'd think it'd be??) TLDR Summary: singularly apathetic service, hipster vibe, and relatively tasty cemita + papas made for a 3.5 star meal...
