This rating is based purely on service and not food. We didn't make it that far. We were excited to try this place because it advertised homemade ice cream and thought it would be great for our kids. Unfortunately, we did not feel welcomed and received dirty looks from the waitress and she was also whispering to other workers about us and then they would look over at our table. Yes we had kids who were being kids and were a bit loud. But we have never felt this way in a restaurant before. We ended up leaving because of how uncomfortable they made us feel. Now that I've read through other reviews it appears this is a common pattern. The workers should all be ashamed of themselves.

We visited today with our two young children and left feeling disappointed by the overall experience, despite the food and ice cream being very good. When we arrived, the hostess did not make us feel welcome at all. We asked about the wait for a table, but she could not provide even an approximate timeframe and seemed uninterested in having us there. Because of the way the situation was presented, it felt as though we might be waiting a very long time, and we seriously considered leaving and taking our business elsewhere. In reality, we were seated after only about five minutes, but that was something we had to figure out on our own while awkwardly standing near the entrance. My husband even had to look around the dining room to see whether any tables appeared to be getting ready to leave. For a candy and homemade ice cream restaurant that is clearly geared toward families, we expected a much warmer and more welcoming first impression, especially with two excited children. Once seated, our waitress was adequate, and the food itself was good. We did find it unusual that there was no children’s menu available. The busboy, however, was great— friendly, attentive, and easily the most welcoming member of the staff. After our meal, the waitress brought the check without asking whether we were interested in dessert, which seemed especially odd considering the restaurant is known for its homemade ice cream. We had to request a dessert menu in order to order ice cream. Overall, the quality of the food and ice cream was very good, but the customer service and atmosphere did not match what we expected for a family outing. A more welcoming hostess and a little more attention to promoting the restaurant’s signature desserts would have made a significant difference in our experience. If I was the owner, I would want to be made aware of the experience.

To call Candy Kitchen a legend and Bridgehampton treasure is not an understatement, and to still be greeted by Gus is just special. If you order crispy bacon and eggs over medium - that's what you get and that's a rare treat these days
