Chinois Orient Bistro has a modestly sized interior that seats about 80 and has the look and feel of a person’s home. It is generally quiet here, except during lunch, when it tends to get crowded. They have a television for entertainment, but they keep the sound low or off and have background music in its place. The home- like feeling is pleasant and fitting for this type of establishment.
Chinois Orient Bistro serves the usual Chinese favorites like Orange Chicken, Broccoli beef, etc., with your choice of white or fried rice. They have a few desserts also, plus a fortune cookie to enjoy/read after you dine. I went with the Mongolian Beef and I like how they serve the rice and the rest of the menu item on separate plates, for your own mixing. It makes for a good presentation and allows you, the customer, to more easily combine everything to your liking. The beverages are limited here- they only sever a few different soft drinks, tea, milk, etc. There is no booze, so you’ll have to forgo that bottle of Tsingtao beer to wash down your meal.
As for the food quality, I found the Mongolian Beef was less spicy than that of other Chinese restaurants. It’s good for those who want a beefier version of the dish, with less spice/heat than usual. I found this okay, but I must admit I was hoping for something a little spicier. Still, I liked the food overall and the meat was lean and cooked just right.
Overall, Chinois Orient Bistro is a good restaurant for lunch or dinner. Carryout is popular here and if you want to go when the crowds are thin, then try to visit for dinner. This establishment doesn’t rank at the top of my Chinese list, but it has enough going for it to recommend a visit.
