After a day of client workshops for me and sightseeing for SWMBO, we decided to have an early dinner at Le Petit Cochon Dingue (the crazy little pig) in the lower part of the old city. The restaurant was about half full when we arrived before 5:30. However, it was difficult to see the entire restaurant because it is an amalgamation of several storefronts on two levels, with various nooks and crannies.
The majority of the menu had French Canadian content, but there were also a few Asian and Indian inspired dishes. Also, you can combo your meal by adding a fixed price extra (Table D’Hôte) for $8 (starter or dessert, and beverage) or $11 (starter and dessert and beverage)
SWBMO chose General Dingue’s Crispy Chicken as her main dish from the “On The Go” menu (which is mostly about burgers and grilled cheese). The chicken was battered and deep fried until the outside was dark and somewhat crispy. It was served with sautéed and fresh Asian vegetables over a bed of rice. SWMBO liked her dish.
I chose the $11 Table D’Hôte option and started my meal with the Mixed Greens Salad. The base was mostly mesclun, with a some julienned veggies and a light oil and vinegar dressing. A fresh start. My main course was Lobster and Shrimp Linguine from the Pasta menu. Pasta was al dente, there were several good pieces of seafood, and it was enveloped in a creamy lobster and tomato sauce. Yum.
We finished off our meal by indulging in some dessert. SWBMO had a half slice of the Apple and Sugar Pie. The main filling of the pie was a bit like a butter tart. Yes, it was sweet, but good.
I chose the Trio of Little Sweets (maple fudge, homemade O’Henry, Nanaimo Square) because I like a lot of food variety, and this fit the bill nicely and sweetly.
Food was very good + service was very good + ambiance was very good = happy customers.
