UPDATE I wanted to post a quick update to my previous review — and I’m happy to say this one comes with a much less cursed vibe I’ve stopped in a few times since, and on my most recent visit the staff took the time to chat with me about my review and mentioned they were hoping I’d give their updated matcha another try. I’m glad I did. They’re now using matcha powder again (no pre-mix), and while the base is still slightly sweetened, I was able to skip any additional syrup. The temperature was spot on, and the matcha-to-milk ratio was excellent for the size I ordered — smooth, balanced, and much closer to the experience I was hoping for. It’s clear they listened and made thoughtful improvements, which honestly goes a long way. The matcha situation feels officially un-cursed Really appreciate the team taking feedback seriously and making the effort to improve. ****************************************************** I’ve always had great experiences at Cursed Coffee, so this visit felt a little on brand, but not in the way I hoped I ordered a matcha latte and was surprised to learn the matcha powder is now pre-mixed with vanilla syrup to save time. I completely get the need for efficiency, especially during busy rushes — but this change kind of puts a small curse on the matcha experience. Part of the beauty of matcha is the clean, earthy flavour and the ability to have it unsweetened (for those of us who like our drinks less “dessert” and more “zen tea ceremony”). With the syrup already mixed in, that flexibility disappears, and it shifts from a traditional matcha to more of a vanilla-matcha situation, whether you want it or not. It’s a bit like ordering black coffee and finding out it was pre-sweetened “for convenience.” Not tragic just mildly haunting The cinnamon buns and breakfast options are still dangerously good, so I’ll definitely be back for pastries and food. But for now, my matcha orders may have to seek spiritual fulfilment elsewhere until the curse is lifted and the whisk comes back out. Price per person: CA$1–10 Food: 4 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
