I don’t usually make posts like this, but I feel people should be aware of the experience I had at Debbie’s Place today. From the moment I walked in, the experience was disappointing. I wasn’t greeted or acknowledged. I stood at the counter for at least two minutes before anyone even spoke to me. The first thing that was said was, “What would you like?” There was no “Hello,” “Welcome,” or any type of greeting. I’ve been a pescatarian for 19 years. I ordered the broccoli bites because nowhere on the menu did it say they contained meat. After taking a bite, I noticed a smoky flavor and asked the waitress if they had meat in them. She told me no. Trusting that answer, I took another bite and realized I was actually chewing on pieces of ham. I politely asked for a refund because I was served something I specifically do not eat. Instead of apologizing or showing any concern, the manager came out and immediately said, “You already paid for it, so what’s the problem?” When I explained that I’m a pescatarian and that the menu didn’t disclose there was meat in the broccoli bites, the manager responded, “She’s just a counter girl. She doesn’t know what’s in the food.” Still, there was no apology or acknowledgment of the mistake. Then she said, “That’s how we do things around here in this neighborhood.” That comment, along with the way I was treated from the moment I walked in, left me feeling unwelcome. There were three of us together, and we all spent money at this establishment. After asking for a refund multiple times, the manager finally opened the register and threw $6 on the counter instead of handing it to me respectfully. This wasn’t just about the food. It was about the lack of customer service, professionalism, and accountability. If a menu item contains meat, that should be clearly disclosed, especially when a customer specifically asks before eating it. I won’t be returning. I’m sharing my experience so others can make an informed decision before dining here.
