I’ve put on (and attended) a lot of great dinner parties in my time, but the group private dining experience at Don Segundo ranks among the absolute best! Don Segundo is the beautiful private room at El Secreto de Rosita, the fabulous Peruvian/pan-Latin restaurant on U Street in Washington DC. Three of us hosted a party for 17 people and it couldn’t have gone more smoothly, from the first contact to the final good-byes. We worked with Saud to create a very generous (we took home doggy bags) menu of three appetizers, three mains, and two desserts. It was served family style, so each person got to have every dish! The waitstaff paced the dishes perfectly. Also perfect: The volume of the upbeat music. We could easily converse without raising our voices—what a luxury! My guests raved about ALL the food; the gorgeous ceviche appetizer was a particular hit, along with the Arroz con Mariscos (rice with seafood) and the Aji de Gallina (a pulled chicken dish). And OMG, “Secreto’s” Mousse de Chocolate—deep, rich and silky—wins out over the best DC French restaurant offerings! In other words, it was 5 stars down the line: The food, the atmosphere, the service, the price, and the music’s volume! Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
