I recently moved to the Alexandria area and I am on a mission to try all the small mom and pop restaurants in the area. This place is a total hit! The atmosphere is warm and it was very clean. Staff was friendly and bubbly. I got the Peruvian half chicken and it was very good. I was quite impressed and this place will be going into regular rotation. Price per person: $10–20 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Dietary restrictions: Not many side options if you are doing a low carb diet.

El Rancho in Alexandria is officially on my regular rotation now. I stopped by for dinner and ended up walking out really impressed. I ordered the chicken quesadilla and it was a solid 5/5. The tortilla had that perfect crisp on the outside, and inside it was loaded with melty cheese and seasoned chicken that didn’t feel skimpy at all. You can tell everything is made fresh because it came out hot and fast - no long wait, even though the kitchen was busy. The server (Jessy) was super friendly and I hope next time I eat she is working, she checked in a couple times without being overbearing. Dessert was the cherry on top that sealed the 5 star overall rating. The flan was a 5/5 and is one of the best I have had in the area. Smooth, not too sweet, with that classic caramel on top. Today I tried the tiramisu as well. It was a touch dry however the flavor was spot on - coffee and mascarpone came through really well, so I will still give it a 4.5/5. Logistics are easy too. There is plenty of free parking right out front, and two entrances into the shopping center. Just a heads up that GPS might route you through the second entrance, so don’t stress if it feels like you are going the wrong way. Overall, great food, fast service, friendly staff, and no parking hassles. Highly recommend El Rancho if you’re in Alexandria and want solid lunch/dinner that actually stand out from the local competition.
