I dislike giving negative reviews but my experience today was negative. I was out late visiting my father and wanted some comforting mofongo because it was a chilly rainy day. So I placed an online order. I knew something was wrong because the picture in the photo of some of the things online didn't match with the titles of the food. For instance mofongo was listed as pizza rolls meaning the picture was mofongo but the title was pizza rolls. The title of mofongo came up a description of some Cajun chicken I didn't quite get it. Nevertheless I just thought that maybe they're trying to play some cutesy stuff with the names so I ordered the quote "pizza rolls" and a birria taco which came out to $22.01. By the time I settled in the parking lot I got a message that it was cancelled. So I decided to call, it just kept ringing. I look to where the restaurant was and it was open with a good amount of people inside, because it's taco Tuesday. So I decided to suck it up and go inside hungry, tired, cranky and with a near dead phone. The front doors were locked but I finally make it to the rear entrance...it's a cute set up but I'm in no mood to "hang" and I'm a $1.60 poorer due to having to pay for parking when my initial plan was to hop out my car and pick up my food when I got the notice that it was ready. The bouncer was friendly enough, I told him my ordeal and he directed me to the bar inside. It was a good amount of people in there but I was able to explain my situation to a bartender including my card being charged (I have to wait 3 days to get my money back I guess) and ordered the mofongo quite promptly. The bartender was friendly enough until I got the bill for this takeout order with an automatic gratuity of 18% which came out to $21.31. Mind you I had ordered a birria taco with my mofongo online with the online surcharge for $0.70 more. I've never experienced that. At most for take out YOU pick how much to tip but not AUTOMATIC! Nevertheless I persisted because I was now past chilly and legit cold because of I think between the breeze from the patio doors being open and the AC blasting on top of the hanger, tiredness and crankiness and now needing to pee. The bartender could sense my annoyance and offered some water which increased my urge to pee and told me 5-10mins for my order. Other establishments would have offered more. But my thinking is that they're satisfied with their level of business and don't need any new customers. Bottom line, I really just wanted to go home to pee, get comfy and eat so I opted to stand and wait, sans phone to help distract me from the discomfort. The place was buzzing with people but I didn't want a vibey experience, I just wanted a takeout experience. Of course it took over 10 minutes to come, nevertheless I finally made it home! I peed, washed my hands and put on my robe to dig in to the mofongo! The plantain part was well seasoned with bits of pork skin in it...yay! I get to the center and the pernil was dry...cough cough boo. if there were some cheese and or guac to help compensate for the dryness then it would have been cool but the mofongo was just accompanied with some mid and mild red salsa. I found some Cholula and chipotle mayo at home to help juicy it up, it helped some but ended up giving the rest of my pernil to my dog. Idk, the staff was friendly enough but my whole customer service experience sucked. I get the impression they have regulars they're comfortable with but may not be interesting in providing a full customer service experience of online, phone and in person for newer customers. I doubt I'd come back but don't think it would matter. I'm not a negative Nancy but thought my experience needed to be shared in hopes of remediation. 2 stars because the staff I encountered were friendly enough and the plantains were seasoned. Hands down Erick Cordova is the best bartender I've ever had! He is very friendly, welcoming, and made everyone feel like a regular. His drink recommendations were spot on, and every cocktail was perfectly balanced and expertly made. You can tell he genuinely enjoys what he does and takes pride in providing great service. He is attentive without being overbearing and kept the atmosphere fun all night. If you're looking for amazing drinks and exceptional service, this is the bartender/service you want behind the bar or as a server. I'll definitely be back! Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

If you are coming to El Segundo in Norwalk, do yourself a massive favor and pray that you get Erick Cordova as your server or bartender. Erick isn't just doing a job; he is executing a masterclass in elite hospitality. From the second we sat down, his energy was absolutely infectious. The vibe at El Segundo is already lively and vibrant, but Erick takes it to a whole different stratosphere. Here is why Erick is an absolute legend: The Recommendation King: The global street food menu has a lot of choices, but Erick broke it down like a culinary genius. Every single food item and cocktail he suggested was an absolute 10/10 knockout. Mind-Blowing Service: He was managing a packed house, yet somehow we never saw the bottom of our water glasses, and the food arrived perfectly timed. He anticipates your needs before you even know you have them. Next-Level Charisma: He’s incredibly sharp, genuinely warm, and makes you feel like the most important table in the building. Give this man a promotion, a raise, and his own statue outside the restaurant. El Segundo is amazing, but Erick Cordova makes it unforgettable. We will be back solely because of him!
