I went to lunch at El Veracruz Mexican Restaurant in Pineville today, May 3, 2019, inviting my mom for lunch. It was highly recommended to me from a friend-of-a-friend who is Mexican himself, now living in Charlotte and originally from Mexico City, Mexico. He told me "it is very good and is authentic Mexican food." First and foremost, I love all kinds of Mexican food, and have had "authentic" from home-cooked meals from close friends who are Mexican, to Mexican restaurants in major US cities, to Tex-Mex chain restaurants. "Flavor" or well-seasoned food is what will get my attention any day and night. I ordered the #1 combo of 1 hard shell taco and 2 enchiladas, opted for the refried beans instead of the rice. Chips and salsa to start off. The RESULT: The chips were hard to stale and no crunch. The salsa..no flavor, like it was just tomato sauce from a "can of tomato sauce." The refried beans was just plain pasty and no flavor. The ground beef in the taco and enchiladas was "pale" in color, like either not fried or browned enough (it was very "wet" like it was boiled), and the no taste to it, like not seasoned,..it was bland, tasteless and lifeless. Something is wrong when you have to salt "a whole lot" the chips, salsa, and the main food items of taco and enchiladas. I told my guest..my own mother, that we have had much better tasting Mexican food than what we ate. On the other hand, the service was EXCELLENT: quickly seated, quickly ordered and served, asked if we were ok or needed anything. Gave 2 stars and not 3 stars, more like a "2.5 stars" to rate, "half of 5 stars," because of the excellent service. WHAT HAPPENED TO THE FLAVOR???? I was so looking forward to pigging out on good ole' Mexican food. And it did not happen.
