Only one bed per several hundred dollar a night room. Glass windows to see into the shower. The rooms have been moderately updated but all the common and serving areas are all antique. Which is fine to look at but uncomfortable to be in. The musty smell of your grandparents house and the creaky furniture that you never want to rest in for fear of breaking. Eating was another nightmare they provided breakfast as watery parfaits and stale muffins we had no idea of knowing how long had been in the room. If you’d like more of a dining experience. You can always go to the serving area at the inn. Where you’ll ask several times for juice and be ignored. Where you’ll get cardboard hashbrowns and food drenched in so much aoli you can taste nothing else, and where you’ll just feel a general air of unimportance brought on by the poor service. Our friends got married here and we had to perform 90% of the setting up and tearing down of decorations I had seen little to no Involvement from the staff. For the amount of money that we paid the quality of service and stay we received could only be considered a rip off. It really feels like they’re in on a joke being played at your expense. Why would they have to give you quality anything when they’ve already sold and charged you for it. I will never be returning and if I can help it I will turn as many people away from this scam of a stay as I can. Don’t waste your hard earned money on anything less than you deserve, and nobody deserves to be subjected to the English Inn

We brought my parents here for a special dinner to celebrate my mom's 90th birthday. It was perfect! The place is beautiful, the dining room is elegant and quiet, the food was wonderful, and the service was fantastic. I could not have asked for anything better. My mom loved it. The only caveat to this is that like another recent reviewer (Victoria Carrio, from 2 weeks ago), I communicated that I am allergic to eggs, but I was still served a dinner roll -- and the server didn't tell me until after we had eaten our rolls that the roll contained eggs. Unlike the other reviewer, I don't get an anaphylactic reaction to eggs, and because I'm 100% strict about not eating eggs in general, I squeaked by on this occasion without really bad consequences. If I did have an anaphylactic reaction to eggs, I would have ended up in the ER just like the other reviewer did. I also told them that another in our party, my son, is allergic to wheat, and he was served a dinner roll, too, and wheat crackers. Those are thankfully easily recognized as being made with wheat, and he just gave those to the rest of us, so they weren't a problem -- but he should never have been served wheat rolls or crackers, either. The restaurant needs to improve its process for dealing with customers' food allergies. But I'll also add that those of us with food allergies simply can't rely on others to stay on top of these things. I was suspicious about the roll but ate it anyway, and that was my mistake. I can't tell you how many times, for example, I've asked people serving food, "does this have eggs in it?" just to get a reply like, "no, it just has this, that, the other, and mayonnaise" -- which is mostly eggs; those of us with food allergies just can't rely on others to get these details right. A few months ago, my son spent two days in bed in pain because a new server at another restaurant gave him wheat pasta instead of gluten-free pasta, and he didn't know that's what he was eating. People who don't have food allergies don't pay attention to ingredients the way those of us with food allergies do. And other people's food allergies are just one more ball they have to juggle -- and often drop. Other restaurants use systematic processes that reduce the risk of such accidents across the board, and this restaurant can improve their system, too. I hope that the restaurant will take this seriously, research the systems that other restaurants use, and make real changes befitting such an otherwise great restaurant. If there's any way in which those of us with food allergies could be helpful in this process, I invite the restaurant to reach out to me as well. I'd love to see a great place be even better. Here are a few ideas, as a starting point: * Serve dinner rolls that don't contain eggs. Have gluten-free rolls available for those with wheat allergies. The rolls seem to cause a recurring problem. Solve it. * Put markings by each dish to state whether it is vegan, vegetarian, dairy-free, and gluten-free. * Maintain a notebook of ingredients for each dish, with common allergens listed, that can be shown to customers and checked by staff. * State on the menu that cross-contamination is possible, if that isn't said already.

We enjoyed a night away at the English Inn a few weeks ago. We ate in the pub and the food was delicious and the service was wonderful. We stayed in the croquet cottage which was very nice - clean, quiet, the bed was very comfortable and there was a giant jacuzzi tub in the bathroom to unwind in. I felt very pampered with a night of luxury close to home.
