We got a table, cleared it ourselves onto a windowsill and I went to order food. Disorderly queues, hardly anyone serving. I understand someone had gone to hospital from the bar staff so fair enough but it took absolutely forever to get the order in and when I did get to the front the girl who was trying so hard to get people served had just misplaced her till card so it took a long time while she tried to find it. Fair enough. I got the order in eventually and at least was hopeful that despite a loud quiz going on we'd still enjoy the food as until now, I've never had a bad meal at a Farmhouse Inns.
Considering how few people were ordering food it took a good while to come. Eventually a waitress came over and asked if we'd ordered food - odd as I'd given a table number. She went back and brought the food over, saying something about all the staff had gone home / finished or something, odd when it was so busy?
Then came the eating. We'd both ordered the Crispy Chicken Medley - the chicken was utterly revolting. It was like rubber, I had to saw through it, the texture was rubber and it was absolutely vial tasting and really really chewy. It looked like it had been cooked previously and then reheated days later and tasted even worse. I have no idea what you do to chicken to make it like that but there is no way any pub should be serving food like that to their customers.
And of course we were stuck with it. No-one came to see if it was ok. There were no staff to complain to - what do I do - queue at the swamped bar with a plate of food for half an hour? We'd been out walking all night so ate what we could as we were hungry but it made me feel very off and my stomach still feels bad today when writing this review. We shouldn't have been put in a position of paying for food and then being unable to eat it / send it back and I'm really angry I paid £16 for two pieces of chicken that were utterly disguising.
I can accept a lack of bar staff, we've been here before without problem and if the food that had come out of the kitchen had been edible I'd have accepted the situation but the food was completely unacceptable. I'm not a food snob, I eat out a lot and am quite happy with low cost eateries but Farmhouse Inns are more expensive than some and this food is probably the worse I've ever been served by a pub with a food license, ever. I will be forwarding this to customer services.
