My sister had booked a table for herself, her 2 daughters and my mum; I had a table booked for myself, my sister-in-law and my nephew(and his live in partner decided to come as well).
We didnt ask for table together yet they said that because we arrived together, even though our arrival was staggered, that they couldn't accommodate us under the rule of 6. We only appeared to arrive together because they had no one manning the main desk at the time.
There was also another "group of 6" who were definitely NOT from the same household in their "team building" t-shirts also stuck in the queue with us and should have also been considered to be our group as they had technically arrived together with us, under the staff's definition, however they were allowed to eat.

Rule of six
For the wellbeing of our team and guests, please remember that it is unlawful to mix in groups of more than six people. For this reason, we are unable to join tables together in order to accommodate parties of more than 6.
As I said we did not want to join tables and didnt care where if the tables were at opposite ends of the building as long we each had a table of 4 to eat and talk after the funeral.
Thanks for reminding us what poor customer service is like, and adjusting your rules on the fly due to your own incompetence.
Feel free to bar us for your establishment because we will not be using it again.
