If you do not know how to cook a piece of meat, do not offer it on your Chef's Menu. I don't even know where to start. I had my first experience with Faun because our first choice had no availability. Faun seems like it was once worth the cost but is no longer worthy of your money (review replies from owner show a chef change). We were told that if one of us at the table wanted the Chef's Menu that we all needed to get it (they recommend)... I've never heard of that in my life and to me that screams your chef has no idea what they are doing. So we all order from the Chef's Menu which you'd assume since it's his/her menu that it would be the best possible option to order, and if that's the case then I feel bad for people who order A La Carte. So, the first plate despite being labeled as Salmon Crudo was clearly a white fish (checking the menu online it's Yellowtail) which was actually fine but surprising as no one mentioned it was not going to be salmon. The next dish, was the Scallop which was actually well executed, a single scallop wrapped in pasta accompanied by a brown butter sauce which does a lot of the work. The alternative to this however which my wife ordered was bland pasta swimming in a bland white sauce, which should either be taken off the menu or the Chef should have to defend that dish to the owner I'm sorry, but don't serve a tasteless course in your Chef's Menu. Then we come to the final plate on the Chef's Menu and was I excited to try this Wagyu beef. I was ready for what I thought would be one of the best cuts of steak I'd had in a long time. Boy was I wrong. I wasn't aware that one of the characteristics of Wagyu was the toughness of the meat when prepared improperly as a few google searches of tough Wagyu will point out this is likely due to being undercooked and poorly cut. So either one of two things is true here, either they are intentionally serving tough undercooked steak as a choice, or they don't know how to cook the meat they're serving. I don't know which is worse honestly. The wait staff was fine... A little pushy maybe but nothing terrible. I honestly HATE leaving bad reviews because it means I had a bad experience. I don't mind spending $300 on a meal for 3 people if the food is good. I think Faun is on it's way out however and I would not personally eat there again (fool me once) but as a New Yorker sometimes you need to branch out and try new places and sometimes you get let down. Faun was just my latest let down. Vegetarian options: Do not come here if you are Vegetarian, you will be severely limited. Service: Dine in Meal type: Dinner Price per person: $100+ Food: 2 Service: 3 Atmosphere: 3 Recommendation for vegetarians: Would not recommend

Ok, here’s the deal - Faun was at one point the best restaurant in Prospect Heights. I have been here over 10 times with many menu favorites. At the end of 2023, the restaurant switched chefs and the vibe began to change. The new Faun, with its incredibly limited menu, is good, not great. It shifted a bit more on the foo-foo side with tiny portions, elevated pricing, and a hint of arrogance. Disappointed with the direction they’ve gone, it definitely is headed in the wrong direction - better suited for an upper east side crowd. Food: 3 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 5
