One of the few places that has quite a few Yelp reviews, Fernando's is a locally owned breakfast and lunch restaurant, serving up grill based foods for reasonable costs, near Leicester Square. Needed to leave our hotel room near Leicester Square for a bit in the morning, because of a hotel required safety check, so looked for close places that served English breakfasts. Fernando's came up with good ratings. It's a short walk from Chinatown, and is a small establishment with 4 tables (seating for under 15 people). On a Wednesday morning, it was manned by the wife of Fernando (taking care of front of house and drinks) and a fry cook. It's a small breakfast menu, and wasn't too hard to make our choices. They stress their English breakfasts, along with breakfast sandwiches. It wasn't busy for dine-in (stopped in after 8 am). I love English breakfasts....the consumption of baked beans in the morning is something that just matches my preferences, and am really glad that I was able to partake at least once on our trip. Fernando's complete version (£10.50) and has all requisite components: Sunny side up egg, mushrooms, whole tomatoes, bacon, a sausage (banger), baked beans, toast, and tea (from a bag). My wife ordered a egg and bacon sandwich (£4.60) and a (white) coffee (£3.90). It came delivered soon after. The food was good. The baked beans tasted like Heintz, which is difficult to get in the States. The tomatoes were the peeled type that comes in a can (great to make pasta sauce, not so great for breakfast). The egg was great quality, and the toast was a thick white (thickness of Texas toast). The bacon was the Canadian sort, more like ham. And the banger was OK. The sandwich seemed to be overwhelmed by the bread...there is a reason why a bagel or muffin is used as the bread for breakfast sandwiches....Texas toast is just a bit too much bread. The latte was good, though the price approached what Starbucks would cost. We paid after we finished, and discovered Fernando's has been at this location for almost 20 years. It's a great place, definitely worth a stop in.
