Its been a while since ive been here. I recall i quite enjoyed it last i visited. However the shop has really changed... Very very average claypot rice. Ratio of ingredients to rice was like 1:10. We ordered the chicken and mushroom claypot. I was shocked to see that most of it was bones. Out of 4 pieces there was hardly any meat. The slices of lup chong could have been non existent as to how thin they were. It almost had me thinking... "why even put it in there". Not generous at all. Haha its honestly like there is a science behind stinging... how to make something look like there is more than there actually is... basically dressed up bones and saucy rice for $20 with the side of 1 chopped up shitake mushroom, 4 strands of chicken and 1 inch of spring onion and 1 cm of chopped up lup chong... Rude service. We are definitely not here for the service... We got the wrong order brought to us and they just insisted we were in the wrong and expected us just to eat what we were served. Then start getting angry that they cant speak english, calling us stupid (in chinese) and that i should speak chinese (we are in australia and i can understand what u are saying in mandarin...) ridiculous. Very disappointing experience. Overall can get much better food and service anywhere else. Price per person: $20–40 Food: 1 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 2

What keeps me coming back is the traditional Chinese soup and the black sesame dessert. Although black sesame paste is the only dessert on the menu, it is good enough to keep me coming back again and again. When dining here, concentrate on the food and enjoy the flavours, but don't expect much beyond that.

One of my favourite places to eat for tasty and affordable claypot rice dishes or slow cooked soups is First Taste in Box Hill. It's been there for a long time and still going strong - thank goodness. Our favourite dish is the pork loaf with preserved vegetable rice claypot. The seafood kim chi hotpot, sake fish claypot, satay beef claypot, and hot & sour beef/seafood noodles are excellent. In fact most of the claypot rice are so good. You won't go wrong with any of them. All washed down with a jug of sugar cane drink. Perfect. Bring cash though as they frown on credit card. Would I be back? Absolutely. Every month to get my claypot fix. Meal type: Dinner Price per person: $1–20 Food: 5 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 4
