Flybird chargrilled chicken has a special place in my heart after just the first visit. There are plenty of fastfood chicken joints and to be honest, after going to these places over a period of time you really begin to appreciate a mom and pop stop that is as good as Flybird. Flybird doesn't try to reinvent the wheel. It's all about char grilling chicken using hickory charcoals. You have several different options in terms of size (1/4, 1/2) and dark or white meat. The sides that we tried were wholesome and screamed comfort food. Not overly salted or seasoned. The mash potatoes and gravy were not the best I ever had but they sure weren't poorly executed either. Dont get me wrong, I enjoyed them but nothing off the charts. What flybird excelled at was the main show of the meal, the chicken. Not only was the chicken super juicy inside and beautifully crispy skinside but every meal comes with a grilled head of garlic, a cup of pesto sauce and a half a lemon. Combine this all together and the taste is so beautifully simple but enjoyable. It truly is masterfully executed. We dressed the rest of the meal up with a barley and mushroom mix (very damn good), a side salad and corn on the cob. All very excellent. Finally, the meal is all brought together with a slice of flat bread that soaks up the chicken juices at the bottom of the plate. Wow! If you're looking for a departure from the main selection on the menu then you have a choice of salads (all accompanied with chicken of course), a few sandwiches (the grilled chicken parmigiana looked freaken amazing), and you can also choose to have your chicken fried as an added option. But having enjoyed the chargrilled version I dont think I'll venture to the fried side anytime soon (alright, maybe one time to see how they execute it :). There was also a special for their version of a chicken pie and an added special vegetable (I dont remember what it was). Flybird is very neatly decorated. From the small sign surrounded by rustic light bulbs to the pictures on the wall and wood furniture, flybird feels extremly homie. I felt like I was at a family members home for a quick second to be honest. And so that was our first visit. A success in my book to say the least. I'll be back. They have been open for a few months too so a new kid on the block doing big things is awesome.
