Food at brunch buffet was ok taste wise but cold. Drinks seemed watered down. A 20% 'service charge', for a buffet, was added to the bill, hence the 1 star. Not going back. Service: Dine in Meal type: Brunch Price per person: $30–50 Food: 1 Service: 3 Atmosphere: 2

Sorry you feel like this but brunch buffet is something we only do twice a year, it is not our normal food so this review isn’t on our actual service or food, and if you had a question about service charge you should have asked server, this review is not relevant to our business, we apologize you feel like this if you would like to come in during normal business and review then it would be more accurate.

Very pleasantly surprised by the quality and taste of the food from Fornarelli's! Colchester hasn't had an authentic Italian restaurant since Cafe Mangia closed a few years ago, but this one so far seems promising. ***The one thing I do not care for is when a restaurant adds a surcharge (in Fornarelli's case - a 4% surcharge!) to each item on the customer's bill (before tax!) simply for using a debit or credit card vs those who pay cash. While it won't amount to more than a few bucks per person, you are then charged tax of 7.35% on the meal AND the surcharge, so it is somewhat off-putting to know this restaurant is nickel and diming potential new customers for using a credit card. They did not disclose this practice on the menu, however the manager explained that they will be updating the menus next week to reflect this 4% surcharge if using a credit card .*** We ordered the Fornarelli's Lemon Chicken entree ($22.88 plus tax) ), Caprese salad ($11.44 plus tax) and mozzarella sticks ($8.33 plus tax). The chicken came with polenta and squash, the lemon sauce was excellent. I didn't try the mozzarella sticks but they looked crispy and the marinara looked fresh. The Caprese salad was really good, however I wish the balsamic was more of a thickened reduction or drizzle and less of a dressing, but that's just personal preference - the taste was great. I definitely will come back to try something else, but I'm less likely to order an app and entree next time knowing the additional 4% surcharge brings the per person cost up to more than I feel is reasonable for a quick meal out or takeout in this area.
