I visited The Reading Room Kitchen recently for breakfast with my mum – we come about once a month as a treat. It’s usually a lovely experience, with great food (the almond croissants are a particular favourite) and friendly staff. Unfortunately, this visit didn’t quite live up to our previous experiences. The ordering process is self-service, yet the card machine prompts for a tip before any service has been received, which felt a bit awkward. When the food arrived, there were a few issues. My pancakes were missing the blueberry compote, and the bacon in my mum’s sandwich was quite fatty with the rind still on. No one checked in with us during the meal to see if everything was OK, so we didn’t have the opportunity to mention it at the time. As we were leaving, we gave some polite feedback when asked. While the missing compote was acknowledged, the response regarding the bacon felt dismissive, which was disappointing. I wasn’t looking for a refund – just hoping to share feedback to help maintain the standards we’ve previously enjoyed. Overall, this experience left me feeling quite put off, particularly due to how the feedback was handled. I'm not sure I will be returning again. A Perfect afternoon from start to finish listening to some lovely live music in a beautiful and authentic setting to the absolutley Stunning and delicious food, Perfect for Mothers day and any other occasion! We will definitely be booking again soon! Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

Well worth a visit. We had tea and scones. Beautifully presented in bone china cups and posh teapots. Fresh, warm scone with top quality butter and jam. A wonderful experience. A browse around the equally beautiful gift shop afterwards. Well done. Clearly a lot of effort has gone into this place. Will definitely visit again!
