For the second time in three years, we were visiting a garden in Hopland and went to The Golden Pig for lunch. Both times, we opted to sit on the patio at the back of the restaurant. It is a six table area, but protected from the noise from the main highway in front of the place. Three years ago, it was at the end of the pandemic and the patio was a bit crowded, but this week it was quiet and the perfect place for a relaxed lunch on a mild, wind free day. We were seated quickly, and a bottle of water and glasses arrived at once. Yes, the glasses were small but with the bottle of water on the table, that did not matter. Our drink order arrived quickly and so did our food. Both of us opted for sandwiches--the Cuban and a Ruben and they also arrived quickly; however, the Ruben needed mustard and the server disappeared. I got up and went into the main plant for the missing mustard. The sandwiches are severed along with fries and the fries were freshly cooked. With lots of meat in the sandwiches, both of us took food home. We like the place and will go back, but the service can be a bit sketchy.

Hopland is such a quaint place, yet the businesses have to deal with a freeway roaring through town. This one competes in the best possible way, by being excellent even though they may never see their customers again. Respect. And I plan to go back.
