We visited RockSalt Carrickmacross for breakfast and were extremely disappointed. The prices are very high, but unfortunately the quality of the food and coffee did not come anywhere close to matching them.
One iced caramel latte came to €6.30 — €4.50 for the coffee, plus €0.60 for syrup and €0.60 for an extra shot. At €6.30 for one coffee, you expect something really good. Unfortunately, it was poor quality and absolutely not worth the price.
One person ordered sourdough with avocado without eggs for €13.50, while another ordered the same dish with eggs and was charged the exact same €13.50. The sourdough was rock hard, almost stale and extremely difficult to cut. The poached eggs were also way overcooked.
We specifically asked for no jalapeños on the chorizo, yet they were still served.
The total bill for four people was €91 for breakfast. We have absolutely no problem paying €91 if the food is fresh, well prepared and worth the money — but this simply wasn't.
€6.30 for a poor-quality coffee, rock-hard bread, overcooked eggs and a basic request ignored is not acceptable when you're paying these prices.
Sadly, we will never return and would not recommend RockSalt Carrickmacross to anyone. If you're charging premium prices, the food needs to be premium quality. Unfortunately, ours was not.
