Food was very disappointing and service just plain rude. I bought a vegetable rice noodle meal for my vegan friend and myself only to see that they put a fried egg into it ( even though it doesn't say so on the menu). When I brought this to their attention and asked for one without egg I was then charged for the replacement and given attitude. I just paid and took my 3 meals home. All 3 meals went uneaten as they were absolutely disgusting and made our stomachs turn. I had also bought spring rolls which were burnt black and soaked in oil. Between how I was treated and the bad food I definitely won't be going back.
We tried this place based on the good reviews, so we had high expectations. First, the positives: the prices are good as was the service. The food was a disappointment however. I found the flavours were flat and lacking. My dish, the cashew chicken, was even served a little cold. The chicken spring rolls were just average. The hot and sour soup was bland—I was surprised by this—I've had better at other restaurants for sure. I would not recommend this place as there are better options out there.
Picked up some take-out from Guang Tai to try it out. It's recently opened in place of the old Kinaree Thai restaurant on 10th Street in Edenvale.
Decor is minimal but forgivable for a place that's just opened. We ordered the Prawn Phad Thai, Chicken with Cashew Nuts and Deep Fried Wontons for take away. We were pleasantly surprised - portions were plentiful and the food was delicious and reasonably priced. They have an extensive menu with Chinese, Japanese and Thai options.
The fact that they have Udon Noodle dish options available separates them from the regular Chinese restaurants which traditionally only serve egg or rice noodles.
Sushi is reasonably priced with a variety of platter and house special sushi combinations.
Worth a visit if you're in the area - don't be put off by it being quiet; as we spread the word they'll be filling up, I'm sure!
Update 20th December: sat down tonight for dinner at Guang Tai. Delicious sushi platter with melt-in-your-mouth salmon. Crispy chicken, beef with udon noodles and salt & pepper prawns all delicious.
