Gumba joes was one of the best authentic Italian restaurants in park ridge for many years. The owner did an excellent job of preparing the best Italian dishes in a feel good environment. Sadly, he retired. The restaurant is now an Indian/ Italian restaurant. I was so disappointed. The food was terrible. They didn't give me what I ordered which I pd for (it was a carry out). The pasta was doughy. I ordered gnocchi which were the size of footballs, the sauce was runny, ordered sausage but didn't get it. I won't be going back. The quality was terrible.

Hey guys - did you know that the term 'Gumba' is used in Italian to refer to a close companion or friend? If you didn't know this, then it should give you some comfort knowing that you're coming to eat a restaurant that is essentially called 'Your Friend, Joe's'. Come to Gumba Joe's (pronounced Goom-bah) and you'll find yourself in a friendly neighborhood restaurant. This restaurant is a nonchalant, no strings attached-kinda restaurant that has locals coming back for more food and more companionship. When coming into the storefront, I noticed the owner sitting and talking with two or three different local men - apparently Joe is a loveable Gumba. The owner did come into the shop from outside to help us with the order and he was friendly throughout, despite being more "to-the-point". He helped us decide what we wanted to get, and the end result was the minestrone soup, the Italian beef and sausage combo sandwich and the pasta salad. He kept putting spoonful's of pasta salad on the plate that pretty soon the noodles started toppling off...but I'm sure glad that I had a full plate of that because it was delicious. I must say that I love pasta salad but rarely get it for fear that it will be too oily, too greasy. The pasta salad here is done just right, and its so refreshing and light. It complements the richness of the Italian beef-sausage sandwich, which also is very good. The meat isn't greasy - it's a pretty stinkin' good sandwich if I do say so myself. As we came during the lunch hour, we were served the food from under the hotplates but it was all delicious. It was obvious that the food had not been sitting there for hours on end, despite the fact that it could have been with the type of storage it was in. We were told that they don't have a full menu during the lunch hour, so even though we didn't want anything other than what we'd ordered, it would be nice to have the option of a full menu. We were given the option to sit inside however, it seemed to be discouraged as the tables on the right side of the restaurant (through the divide in the restaurant) were already prepared for dinner. I'm sure it would have been fine if we'd chosen to sit there, but we chose to sit outside under the shade...it was perfect! I know the tables aren't always out, but definitely choose to sit there if you can - you'll have a wonderful view of downtown Park Ridge. Now, they do have a couple bottled beers here, but selection is pretty weak...then again, what can you expect from a small-time restaurant like this? They apparently have Peroni, but on the day that we were here, they were out of it. That was a tad of a shame, especially since we were told they did have it before realizing they didn't. In place of that, my fiancé got a Miller Light (again in a bottle - there's no drafts here). The cost of this meal was super affordable, and I left loving the meal however simple it was.

Was okay. Soup was good, pasta decent, pizza, I've had better. Too bad the small place with tables closed up, good placement to grab a quick din with kids and no table service. Decent choice for a quick Italian bite
