Gyropolis – tourist scam, avoid. We went as a group of six, hoping for a casual dinner. The waiter started by offering bread for the table. My mother agreed, assuming it was a small complimentary gesture (as we’ve experienced at several other restaurants in Kos). Instead, we were shocked to see we were charged 4€ per person for two small slices of bread, adding up to 24€ for “appetisers” we never would’ve ordered had the cost been clear. I’m guessing the tzatziki that came with it was an additional 5€, so we paid around 30€ before even getting our mains. When ordering, the waiter repeatedly pushed us toward the gyros plate instead of what we’d chosen. They were also out of several meals that were listed on the menu. My cousin and I asked for basic pita gyros (4.5€), but he insisted they were “lunch only” and claimed they were out of the regular pita. Instead, he offered us the “vegan” pita gyro which costs more (6€), but with meat substituted in. So basically the same thing, just under a different name, for more money. He also said it would be bigger, but it arrived as an ordinary small pita gyro—nothing different except the inflated price. On top of that, he mixed up our orders(we chose different meats for our gyros). We had already started eating when we noticed, so we couldn’t switch. Not the end of the world, but frustrating. The food itself was just okay. The pita gyros was fine, but absolutely not worth 6€ — you can get the same thing for 2€ less elsewhere in Kos. My mother’s gyros plate was very salty, and my friend’s salad was drowned in sauce, so it didn’t taste fresh. The red wine came in a glass jug with ice cubes, rather than a bottle. To top it off, we waited about 20 minutes for the bill (the restaurant was empty), and the total was way higher than expected, thanks to the 24€ “appetisers” and random small charges. We were even charged 3€ for a soda I didn’t order— it was an empty can from another shop, just left on the table. I told the waiter this clearly, and he acknowledged it, said “okay” and then still didn’t take it off the bill. In the end, we just paid, tipped and left. I can’t help but feel like this is how they treat polite tourists who won’t make a scene. The kind of place that thrives off people not arguing the bill. Kos has plenty of amazing, authentic restaurants where the staff are welcoming and transparent. This place relies on tricking tourists and padding the bill. Save your money and go literally anywhere else. Meal type: Dinner Food: 2 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 2
