40 minute wait for a burger and a sandwich, with maybe six other guests inside. The atmosphere was very bizarre. Felt like the building had taken a Xanax but who knows , maybe that’s your thing, no judgement. The burger was decent but their interpretation of a Bahn Mi should be illegal and is certainly a crime against the people of Vietnam. Flash fried sausage and some veg on a bun. Sad in every way possible, no depth, no character, maybe it’s on Xanax too. With waiting 40 minutes for our food I’m shocked the fries were underdone. Add another criminal charge for limp crinkle cut fries, there is a pill for that and perhaps they have it. All in all a sad way to spend $40+ dollars and a Friday night. You win some and you lose some. I’m a loser. Price per person: $20–30 Food: 1 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 1

We were craving a burger so we got some food to go from Halyard’s! Woww!! Our food was delish. The smash burger is so smashed and delicious. The fried chicken sandwich is so crispy crunchy. The fries are classic Americana- delicious, salty & perfect mix of potato-y and crunchy. 10/10. Can’t wait to dine in next time Meal type: Dinner Price per person: $10–20 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Recommended dishes: Double Cheeseburger, Fried Chicken Sandwich

There's a great deal of hype swirling online about this place having the best burgers around so we had to try it out. In typical Olympia style-- very quaint, ecliptic, hippish hole-in-the-wall place on 4th Ave. Just soon blink and walk past it but look closely...its there! (see pics). My girlfriend and I went in around 2pm on a Thursday. Not busy but heard many stories of how busy it gets around lunch and the evening so good timing on our part. Started with having to order drinks, apparently don't offer glasses of water so got a soda and seltzer. Also no ice. Why not ice? Sure would have been n"ice" on a hot day. For our meals we ordered Yard Bird chicken sandwich w/fries (extra) and Smash Burger (Smash Burger is a name already taken by another business-- Halyard's don't get sued!). Chicken was absolutely delicious. Nicely toasted and fresh-baked buttery bun w/ perfectly cooked crispy breaded chicken breast. They make all their buns in-house and it shows. Apparently the sister sandwich is the Hot Bird so if you are in the mood for some kick get that one instead. The Smash Burger was also quite excellent. Same nice and toasty fresh bun (burger buns must ALWAYS be toasted!!) excellent organic beef cooked well-done with fresh toppings. Can't stand a rare burger. Thank you for that Halyard's. Salad was also very fresh and tasty but needed a bit more dressing and maybe something crispy on top like sesame seeds. Fries were cooked well and had nice seasoning on them. All-in-all worth the trip into Oly. Great food, atmosphere and friendly staff. We're burger aficionados so please don't take this the wrong way-- Their burgers are excellent but not nearly as good as the now-defunct Normas Burger hut in Lacey. WA or Burger Landing in Port Hadlock, WA which is the bar to hit to get 5 stars. Nevertheless, Halyard's Cafe is a top level burger shop in western WA. ** RECOMMENDED ** Service: Dine in Price per person: $10–20 Food: 4 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Recommended dishes: Fried Chicken Sandwich
