Today, on the day of the booking, I received a call at 12:30 from your restaurant informing me that our table was being moved outside. I explained that this was not what I had booked and that I did not wish to sit outside. I was told that there were heaters and umbrellas and that we would be fine, but I reiterated that I did not want an outdoor table.
I was then informed that the reason for this change was because a private event had been booked inside. When I asked when this private event had been arranged, I was told it had been booked only two days ago. I questioned why I had not been informed sooner and was told that it “doesn’t really affect you as you can still sit outside.”
I explained that this does, in fact, affect us greatly, as I specifically booked an indoor table over a month ago for my birthday celebration. I asked to speak with a manager but was told that the manager was currently off work due to being in hospital and unavailable to speak.
I also asked whether, given the short notice and inconvenience, any form of goodwill gesture—such as a complimentary drink or discount—could be offered, and was told no. I was left with the choice to either accept an outdoor table or have my booking cancelled. To make matters worse, when I asked for the name of the staff member I was speaking to so I could include it in my letter to the manager, she refused to provide it.
I am extremely disappointed by the way this situation has been handled. Not only was I given just six hours’ notice of this major change, but there was also no apology, no attempt to accommodate us elsewhere, and no goodwill gesture for the inconvenience caused. The refusal to give a name and the dismissive attitude shown have left me feeling very let down.
This is not the level of customer service I would expect from your establishment, particularly for a pre-booked birthday celebration. I would appreciate a written response to this complaint and hope you will review how this situation was managed to ensure no other customers are treated in this way.
