Had dinner at Honey Salt, housed in one of the Marriott’s most upscale hotels, during a quick trip to Vancouver. Here is my take on the three pillars of a good restaurant: HOSPITALITY—The restaurant was packed but they offered us the covered and heated patio, which we accepted. It was November. The staff was very attentive to make sure we were comfortable in spite of the wind and cold. Our waiter was super friendly, accommodating, and conversational, but not intrusive. Just one pet peeve, they included the tax when auto-calculating the tip. I consider this a sneaky way of bilking the customer. It is not okay for restaurants to do this. FOOD—My husband loved his salmon. I ordered the Caesar and requested that chicken be added. The Caesar was okay. The chicken was flavorless and was like eating rubber. I also ordered a whiskey old fashioned that was unremarkable, and I question whether there was a full 1.5 ounces of whiskey in the cocktail. The quality of the food and drink did not justify the high prices. ATMOSPHERE—The interior atmosphere is light, bright, and very pleasant. The patio was also pleasant and the staff did their best to make patrons comfortable with heaters and blankets. In summary, The hospitality and atmosphere met expectation, but ultimately, the food is the most important factor. I have higher expectations of a restaurant where dinner for two exceeds $130. Service: Dine in Meal type: Dinner Price per person: $100+ Food: 1 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 3
