We always eat at different Korean places whenever we're in Koreatown. Tried out Hongdae Korean Restaurant for the first time. It's next door to Passion8 Dessert Cafe. We dropped in on a Wednesday evening (around 7:30pm). Seemed like all the customers inside were Korean. Service was okay but could have been more attentive. Menu consists of rice soup, pork cutlet, steamed pork hock & sliced pork, chicken feet, KFC and "relish" (no idea what that means). First time I've seen chicken feet offered at a Korean spot. - Banchan - kimchi, glazed potatoes, cubed radish and daikon. The potatoes were dense. Both the radish and daikon had a refreshing, crunchy texture. Kimchi was good although not very spicy. - 2x Rice - both soups came with a bowl of rice. - Pork bone soup (#1) ($16.99 regular) - cabbage and more pork bones than we expected. Lots of meat to share but the broth didn't have much depth or complexity. - Seafood soft tofu stew (#11) ($16.99) - large chunks of tofu, egg, green onion and seafood. Only a small portion of seafood thrown in. Stew itself was decent. - Soy garlic chicken (#29) ($17.99 small) - came with three pieces of ttekboki and 6 decently sized pieces of bone-in chicken (mix of drumsticks and thighs). Skin didn't get super crunchy but the soy garlic sauce was well balanced and the meat quite tender. Not the best KFC I've had but sufficient. The prices at Hongdae are a couple dollars higher compared to other Korean spots in the hood. Worth a try but didn't find anything that made HKR standout.
