Howes is a small diner that we wanted to try while visiting Shipshewana, IN. Atmosphere there was friendly and quiet, no loud music. There were a lot of locals coming in, including an Amish group, which in my mind, speaks favorably about the restaurant. The selection is very wide, including breakfast served all day. We ordered a fried chicken dinner and a turkey and dressing dinner. Both were tasty and plentiful and served hot. Our waitress was friendly but not very attentive. We didn’t get water refills offered and had to ask for our bread to be brought well after the other food arrived. The restaurant was mostly clean but the restroom (ladies room) was dirty with toilet paper on the floor. Prices are reasonable IMO. We spent $42 including the tip for 2 meals. We weren’t asked about dessert but the food served was enough that we really couldn’t eat anything else. If I was a local, I would probably come back at some point but we want to visit other restaurants in the area and Howe Restaurant will probably be a one and done experience for us. Great food, many menu items, breakfast all day, quaint atmosphere, great service, Angelo has a signature soup, the area people love his Tomato with orzo pasta. Everything is prepared fresh daily. Something for everyone to eat, even vegans. The desserts are decadent. I suggest you try the butter pecan cheesecake, It is a must for any cheesecake lover. Do not hesitate to stop in you’ll be pleasantly surprised.
