Food was audibly enjoyable, every bite was delicious. We got the raw platter and the platter for two between three people, which was enough food (think raw fish portions, not huge). Great drink selection, music was nice, and service was brilliant - Thank you Devon. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 4 Price per person: $60–70

We recently visited Izu Restaurant in Papakura and ordered a few of our favourites the chicken teriyaki, chicken karaage, and salmon sushi. The food came out beautifully presented and everything tasted incredibly fresh. The chicken teriyaki was cooked perfectly with a nice balance of sweetness and savoury flavour in the sauce. The chicken karaage was crispy on the outside and tender inside, not oily at all, which is always a good sign. The salmon sushi was also very fresh, with a clean taste that really stood out. You could tell the ingredients were of good quality and prepared with care. In terms of pricing, it’s a little on the higher side compared to some other Japanese places around Auckland, but given the freshness and overall quality, it still feels worth it. You’re paying for well-made food rather than something rushed or pre-made. Parking can be a bit of a challenge, especially during dinner hours or weekends. The area around the restaurant tends to get busy, so it might take a few minutes to find a spot. It’s not a dealbreaker, but worth keeping in mind if you’re in a hurry. Service-wise, things were a bit slow during our visit. There were only two staff members working….one behind the bar and one managing the floor ….so they seemed to be stretched thin. Despite that, both were polite and tried their best to keep up with the crowd. It looked like they might have been short-staffed that day, so it’s understandable. Overall, Izu is a cozy spot with great-tasting, fresh Japanese food. The quality definitely stands out, even if the service can be a bit slow when it’s busy. If you’re not in a rush and want a relaxed meal with authentic flavours, it’s definitely worth a visit. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Price per person: $50–60
