A true patriot goes to Jake’s Java. Memorial Day is important, but remembering our fallen shouldn’t be limited to one day a year. I was interested in visiting Jake’s Java after learning Jake was serving in the U.S. Air Force when his aircraft crashed during a training exercise, claiming the lives of all eight crew members on board. As a combat veteran myself, I wanted to support a local business that honors service and sacrifice. This was my first visit to Jake’s, and I’m so glad I stopped by. Not only was the food excellent, but it was clearly made with love. In fact, that describes the entire atmosphere. The owner, Jake’s mother Kim, is a wonderful woman, and if you stop by, you won’t regret taking a moment to say hello. I highly recommend coming by for a cup of coffee, a sandwich, or simply to pay your respects. Outside, you’ll find eight beautifully crafted picnic tables, each dedicated to one of the fallen service members. Take a seat, enjoy the moment, and spend some time reflecting on the heroes whose legacy lives on here. Jake’s Java is more than a coffee shop—it’s a tribute, a gathering place, and a reminder that our fallen heroes should never be forgotten. The past I have gotten great americanos here with steamed , sweetened cream. The gentleman was very good, this trip the drink was poor-I think the staff needs better training to help them out. Order type: Takeaway

I was fortunate enough to visit Jake's Java last fall. Similar to other reviewers, I found the food and service to be amazing. Living in MN, however, limits my ability to visit very often. I needed to experience the coffee shop firsthand, with the eight hand painted picnic tables, the framed photos of the eight Gundam 22 crewmen inside the café, and to personally meet Kim, the owner. You see, my son is in those photos. He was one of the crew. I am also a Gold Star Mom. Kim knocks it out of the park on a daily basis in how Jake's honors our sons, sharing their individual stories to all who choose to hear it. I am eternally grateful for her, and her vastly growing outreach into her local community speaks volumes about her integrity and intent. While I should have written this review long ago, I felt the need to address a recent comment from another reviewer questioning the sincerity of Jake's. Truth is, sincerity is not a measurement, it's an assessment. This assessment becomes more complex when the person you are assessing is navigating profound grief, such as the death of a son. In these moments of extreme pain, standards that are applied must be paused. Grief alters behavior; it drains energy, impacts memory, and makes even small tasks monumental. If you think you see what you perceive as insincerity – a deadline missed or seeming distracted – it's probably just her trying to survive the pain. Perhaps that day it took all she had to just show up. Look at the long term pattern over the momentary performance, and offer deep grace for any "insincerities" that are clearly rooted in pain. Visit Jake's Java. Raise a freshly roasted coffee to a veteran. Say their names. Never forget. Cathy Hoernemann.
