Really disappointing experience. We paid almost $100 for two roast meals and a pint, and it was nowhere near worth the price. Each plate came with one small piece of pumpkin, about a tablespoon of shredded cabbage, and only one piece of roast potato cut in half. The portion sizes were very underwhelming, and the food was only lukewarm when it arrived. For what we paid, we expected a generous, hot roast. Unfortunately, we left feeling disappointed and won’t be returning. You also have to pick it up yourself. Wouldn’t get the roast beef if I went here. Very relaxed atmosphere, lots of outdoor heating, and undercover outdoor seating. Personally i would of liked to see a slightly bigger portion of gnocci for $38, in line with other near by venues (value ratio). There was LIVE music on a Friday night, and a few outdoor camp fires in winter to toast your own mashmallows over. Very helpful friendly staff Price per person: A$40–60

Jimmy Joans in the Hunter Valley is a gorgeous little spot for a relaxed brunch, and I’d highly recommend adding it to any Lovedale itinerary. From the moment you arrive, the space feels cosy and welcoming, with a modern bar, intimate dining room and plenty of outdoor seating looking over lawns and the nearby dam, which makes it ideal for a slow morning or lazy afternoon. The brunch menu is excellent, thoughtful, uncomplicated dishes done really well, with options that work whether you’re after something light with coffee or a more substantial plate to set you up for a day of wine tasting. Everything we tried was fresh and well seasoned, and it really shows off the honest, wholesome style they’re known for. (Their Sunday roast was great by the way) The drinks list is just as impressive, with a strong focus on Hunter Valley wines alongside interesting bottles from further afield, plus cocktails, beer on tap and good coffee if you’re keeping it low-key. It’s the kind of place where you can start with brunch and easily linger, working your way through the by the glass options while you enjoy the relaxed atmosphere and friendly service. Overall, Jimmy Joans is a charming brunch spot with a great menu and a very well‑curated wine list, and it’s definitely a must‑visit when you’re in the Hunter.
