On occasion I don’t feel like cooking, I don’t want fast food, I don’t want to leave the neighborhood for a bite to eat, and I don’t want the same fare I’ve eaten time and again from local haunts. This feeling leaves me open to try something new that I would not have gone to before. Such was the case when a friend and I dropped into Jude’s this afternoon. I have passed this place almost daily for years with a promise to myself that one day I would drop into there. Today was that day. Located in Rainier Beach, food choices are primarily Creole/Cajun. We started with roasted Brussels Sprouts. Excellent choice. But the star of the table was the small cup of gumbo I ordered. My first bite left me surprised and almost speechless. It was dark and rich, well seasoned with sufficient chicken and andouille sausage. As good or better than many I’ve eaten in New Orleans and better than any I’ve eaten locally! For entrees I chose the Tabasco Caesar salad with added chicken. My dining companion chose the chicken sandwich. The servings were large and tasty offering more than we could eat during our seating. The chicken was tender and well seasoned and fried to a golden crisp. What a find. The place is a bit larger than small offering an eclectic decor and assortment of guests. It’s cozy and welcoming with a staff that makes you feel like a member of the family. If I had one criticism it would be in the choice of serving plates. They were a slightly curved triangle design that was too small for the serving. With every scoop food kept falling off the plate at the shallowest points. Besides that, I’ll be going back soon and often. Price per person: $30–40 Food: 4 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

Cajun themed menu. I started with a cup of Gumbo and then a chicken sandwich with a side salad. Service was good but they didn't have any clean forks so I had to eat my salad with a plastic fork. Price per person: $50–60

Jude's is a small restaurant located in the Rainier Valley that serves southern dishes. Upon entering the restaurant it is small but was semi full. There is one waiter and one or two cooks I believe. We waited a few minutes to receive menus and was brought water. I placed an order for the shrimp po boy, hush puppies, grits plate with catfish and beignets. While waiting I decided to pay cash. The waitress/ bartender brought my change back but shorted me. When I made a comment about the short, she stated they did not have enough change and I made another comment about the short and she said, "oh" and walked away. However, the smell of the food was great and even better... the food was delicious!! Definitely worth the visit. I will be back and plan to use a card next time. Shoutout to the cook that threw down and the owner that ensures seasoned food is served. Seattle needs more owners and cooks like this restaurant has. 5/5 for food! Food: 5 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 5
