My roommate decided he wanted Asian food for his brithday and asked me for advice. With Yelp as my guide, we ended up at this little gem. Legit Asian food in North Dakota??? I know, I was shocked too. I was very skeptical coming here because every other Asian restaurant in this city has disappointed me greatly. However, that is definitely not the case with Kobe's Japanese Steak House and Sushi Bar. Atmosphere - Very Modern yet traditional Japanese style decor. The lighting at the booth tables has just the right amount of dim for a romantic environment. Definitely coming back here with my girlfriend instead of 2 guys next time. They have big tables with cooks at the grill for larger parties as well. Birthdays - We came in here expecting maybe a small desert for my friend's birthday. Boy, were we wrong. My roommate got TWO ice cream scoops (choices of vanilla, green tea, or chocolate), a $15 dollar voucher for his next meal here AND the staff sang "Happy Birthday" to him both in English and Japanese. Man, those guys should be on American Idol. From this day and until the end of my days, all birthdays dinner will be here. Chicken Wing Appetizer: I have a very low tolerance for spicyness. However, these chicken wings are more sweet than spicy. The spicyness gives that an extra kick that compliments the sweetness. If you are eating here and don't try the chicken wings, you are missing out. Yaki Soba - A bit too much veggies for my taste, but it was very well balanced out by the quantity of meat. Portions was huge and you can order extra meat for a couple of more dollars. The noodles were nice and moist, but not too undercooked. If you are not sure which meat option to get, I would go with the steak. Teriyaki Strip Steak - My favorite dish here. Accepting my roommate's generosity and taking a bite, my fork ended up wandering back to his plate several more times. The steak was cooked medium rare perfectly. Juicy and tender, just the way I love my steaks. The teriyaki sauce definitely enhanced the flavor. Chicken Hibachi - Presentation did not look like much, but looks truly are deceiving. If you are looking to get the most of your money, I would go with this dish. Lots of food, one of the cheaper things on the menu, and full of authentic flavor associated with Hibachi dishes. Service - my server's name was Soo Han. To describe this man with the words "polite", "nice" and "friendly" would be to do him injustice. He is truly a paragon of customer service. A smile on his face the whole night despite being everywhere at once on a busy Sunday night. As soon as anyone's cup was half empty in his section, it would automatically be filled. I am very picky on this, because restaurants charge a lot for drinks and tend to be awful at refilling on busy night. This man truly has an eye for attention and is more than happy to help when you call him over. Another bonus, he gives very good food recommendations (discovered the amazing chicken wings due to him). Lastly he is an amazing Happy Birthday Singer. I would have reviewed this place 4 stars if not for his incredible customer service MISC - Umary students get 10% on all meals Mon-Thur. Awesome deal. College students can now eat good AND save money.
